Fernand Cian Bust of a Young Girl and Boy Borghese Gallery
Fernand Cian Bust of a Young Girl and Boy Borghese Gallery
Pair of vintage bust sculptures of an adorable young French girl and boy in the style of the late 18th century. She features an elegant textured coiffure of locks intertwined with strands of pearls and flowing curls. Little bow on the front of her blouse. Each has the sculptor’s signature on their left shoulder. Plaster with a cream and green painted finish. Felt bottoms with Borghese labels. These are copies of original terra cotta sculptures by French/Italian sculptor Fernand Cian. She’s titled "Bust of a Young Girl” and he’s "Bust of a Boy”, circa 1910. She measures 15” tall, while he’s 16” tall. Both are in good condition with extremely minor wear to finish and some dust in the nooks and crannies. He has a small hairline crack on the crown of his head and she has a hairline crack on the nape of her neck; see close-up. Fernand Cian (Fernando Ciancianaini, 1886-1954) was known for his charming terracotta busts of children in 18th century style. Examples of his work may be found at the National Gallery, Washington, D.C., and at the Louvre.
